Ubuntu Beach Villas By Reveal

The seafood buffet on the beach at sunset, with torches and candles, was unforgettable. We also had a secluded beach where turtles came ashore at night to lay eggs, a nearby beach restaurant, and a clean pool by one of the bungalows. A wonderful stay we won't forget. The three locations are run independently and sit about 300 m apart, which made things feel cosy and comfortable. Each one is a little idyll for 8-12 guests. Our service staff were outstanding, especially our butler and waiter Aktar, who was personal, courteous, reliable and friendly without being intrusive. The chefs Maleesha and Ishan made imaginative, delicious food that felt true to the country. Thank you all three so much!

Falling asleep to the waves was my favorite part. Ubuntu Beach Villa is right by the beach, and the villa was spotless. The staff were welcoming and helpful too. A peaceful coastal stay, and I’d highly recommend it.

The staff made us feel right at home, always friendly, welcoming and ready to help with a smile. Maleesha deserves a special mention too. He’s a young, very talented chef, and his food was delicious and beautifully prepared. It was a pleasure trying his cooking. Our ocean view room was clean and comfortable, with a breathtaking view. Hearing the waves as we fell asleep at night was magical, one of the highlights of our stay at Ubuntu Villas. Highly recommended for a peaceful, comfortable seaside escape.

The beach is empty enough for a walk, but the waves are huge. Swimming didn't seem possible unless you caught a very calm day, and I don't think those happen often. If you just want somewhere near the water to chill, this could suit you. Breakfast was delicious, with fruit and eggs always nicely presented and tasty. Our cleaner and porter Nuwan kept the room clean every day and was super smiley and chatty. The main butler was attentive, though perhaps not as smiley as staff at the other hotel we stayed at in Srilanka. The view and location are lovely, and the room has a nice layout, with sliding walls between the bathroom and sleeping area. The bed was comfortable, and the towels and bedding were okay, though more grey than white. Aircon worked well and was very quiet. The little chair covers were dirty and need cleaning. The place is clean and smells fine, but the setup feels a bit tired. Things are worn and could use some paint. The sandbags for sea surges are visible from the loungers, with bits of plastic in view, and I wouldn't want dirty lounger pads at a 5* hotel either. We weren't at the hotel much during the day, so that wasn't really an issue for us. A couple of small touches could make this a fab place. The sister hotel down the road looks a bit better, though lying in bed and looking at the sea through the palm trees is cool. We’ve stayed in all sorts of places around the world, and this isn't 5 star. Tuk tuk to Merissa was 1000 rupees one way and took about 7 minutes. There are lots of places to eat out, and hotel prices are double what you pay in town. You can choose fresh fish on the main beach and have them cook it for you. Would I recommend the hotel? I'm not sure. Do your research. It's not terrible, but I wonder if you can get somewhere better for the money.
