Moksha at Kitulgala Rainforest Boutique

We run hotels and restaurants and have been in the business for over 25 years. We were working in Colombo and wanted a quick break. After looking at beach options, we decided on the jungle instead. We found this place on Google Maps after searching for hours, and it wasn't an easy find. The reviews and website gave us the sense that they knew what they were doing. Food matters a lot to us, especially somewhere with nowhere else to eat, and the online photos and reviews finally convinced us to book. We weren't disappointed. The chef clearly knows their craft. The breakfast was probably the best I've had anywhere in Sri Lanka, simple but perfect. We also had the set menu for dinner one night, and it was delicious. The team were friendly and forthcoming, which made a real difference. The rooms are very small, and the pool is the only place to hang out, so at USD 200 a night it may not suit everyone. For us, though, it was exactly what we came for: peace of mind, great food, and attentive service.

With only 8 rooms, the hotel felt wonderfully personal. We could choose when to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and the staff knew us by name. I've never stayed anywhere quite so unique. From the balcony, we could hear the river and all the birds in the jungle each morning. It was so tranquil and relaxing. The hotel itself was beautiful, and the food was exceptional. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The photos really don't show how lovely it is. If you're in the area or passing through, this is a special place to stay. Highly recommend.

The setting at Moksha Hotel in Kitulgala is beautiful, surrounded by lush nature and wonderfully peaceful. We also joined excursions organized by the hotel, which were well arranged and memorable, and let us see the area safely and enjoyably. The staff welcomed us warmly from the moment we arrived and were always ready to help. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly recommend it to anyone visiting Kitulgala.

The balcony view was stunning, and our room was very comfortable. Moksha means peaceful, and there was plenty of that here, alongside a modern property next to a waterfall. The place is tastefully built, and the attentive, helpful staff were happy to take care of our needs. The two chefs are talented, and the whole team works hard to make the holiday memorable. Kenny, Chand, and the rest of the team, thank you for making our trip so special. The owner clearly cares about the staff, who were all happy at work even though he was never there. The care and luxury here would cost far more than half the expected price in any European country.
