Palmstone Retreat - Kithulgala

Nature here was incredible, and the hotel was beautiful and peaceful in the rainforest. The rooms were spacious and lovely, and the food was delicious. Ravi especially took care of us during our visit. The boys loved swimming, jumping, and sliding in the river. I only wish we could have stayed longer than two nights.

The staff made the difference, warm and attentive, and clearly invested in making our stay memorable. The rooms are beautifully designed and comfortable, with a feeling of sleeping right in the jungle. The outdoor hot tub and steam room were lovely touches. This was a welcome break in the middle of my hectic Sri Lanka trip. The property feels magical and tucked away from the noise, with its own waterfall and swimming hole. It’s ideal if you want more than poolside lounging. Staff are happy to guide long jungle hikes to hidden waterfalls and even a prehistoric cave, a great way to get close to nature.

The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we were comfortable during our stay, and the food was delicious with real care given to its quality and taste. Palmstone is in a peaceful, nature-filled spot in Kithulgala, ideal for relaxing. The property was clean and well maintained, and I had a wonderful time. I’d happily visit again and recommend it for a serene getaway.

The room was spacious, clean, and beautiful, with a rainforest and waterfall view that was amazing to wake up to. The bathroom was also roomy and clean, and had a sauna. We enjoyed the warm plunge pool, and only saw other guests a couple of times, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Sameera was a great guide. He took us to a waterfall about 20 minutes away, with breathtaking views, and showed us spots for swimming in the river with life-jackets provided by the hotel. He also took us to Kithulgala Belilena cave. We had a suite with a plunge pool for three nights. The hotel had told us about the road and offered complimentary transport from the main road, where we could park. Our car had high clearance, so we drove instead. It took about 25 minutes, with amazing views along the way of rubber and tea estates, mountains, Rambutan trees, and more. Sithara greeted us as our personal butler and gave us his number so we could message our food choices on WhatsApp. Cell service was sometimes spotty, but WiFi was available throughout the property. Breakfast was great, with Sri Lankan dishes that were nicely presented and subtly flavored. Dinner was average with only a few choices. There weren’t many vegetarian options on the menu, but Sithara arranged a few off-menu for us that day. He made us feel welcome and safe at this little retreat in the middle of a big rainforest. A quiet, serene rainforest gem, with great hospitality, spacious rooms, lovely views, and delicious breakfasts.
