We booked three rooms at Pinipahana Walauwa Resort for a quiet family stay, but it turned into our worst hotel experience. It felt chaotic and unsafe, with very drunk guests, people using the pool with soap on them, outside children knocking on our doors, and constant shouting and loud music without supervision. We came to relax with our families and children, but spent the stay stressed and disturbed. A large outside party was already underway when we arrived. Its tables were set right by our room doors, and the music and noise made resting or sleeping impossible. The manager said the group would leave in 30 minutes because it was a daytime event. We waited patiently, but the disturbance went on for nearly three hours. Worse, the manager was drunk and drinking with the party guests. It was shocking and unprofessional, with no control, policy enforcement, or regard for those staying at the hotel. After we had checked in, the manager told us a second event, a birthday party of around 20 people, would take place that night. We had booked a villa for three families. The other rooms being available didn’t justify letting big outside parties disturb paying guests. This place isn’t suitable for families or for anyone looking to relax. Management showed no respect for guest comfort, safety, or basic hospitality. Absolutely not recommended.

The rooms are comfortable, and the food is tasty, good-sized and affordable. You can also book private parties ahead of time. It’s a beautiful old place high up on Uda Peak Wella mountain, with the pool and dining area facing the ocean.

We went out for dinner and every dish we got was delicious, full of flavor and cooked just right. The service was friendly too, so the whole experience was amazing. Definitely would visit again.

Getting there takes a little care. The entrance road is narrow, though it’s carpeted, and Google Maps may send you along an alternative with a steep downhill that could be tricky for some vehicles. The kitchen is close to the pool, so having a bit more privacy or freedom around the pool would improve things. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made that manageable. I enjoyed a really relaxing holiday at Pinipahana Walauwa in Matara. It’s a lovely heritage-style house with clean, peaceful surroundings. The English breakfast was fresh, full of flavor, and superbly prepared. Dinner costs extra, but there’s a good range of options. The pool and distant sea view added to the charm. A great place to unwind if you like quiet surroundings and a touch of history.

We spent two nights at Pinipahana Walauwa Resort and had a perfect stay. The workers were really attentive, the service was excellent, and both the rooms and restaurant made a great impression. Our rooms were really clean, and the food was delicious. I really recommend this hotel to everyone.
