The Hostel Mirissa

The location worked really well, with the bus station only two minutes away and the beach about ten minutes on foot. Inside, there are open common areas where you can chill or even work out, plus a small kitchen if you want to cook. The rooms were super clean, the AC was great, and the staff were incredibly kind and always ready to help. Laundry was cheap and efficient. Absolutely the best hostel I've stayed at in Sri Lanka. Highly recommend for solo travelers or anyone after comfort and good vibes!

The staff made me feel at home from the minute I arrived. They were warm, welcoming, kind, and helpful, and it felt like staying with friends. Everything was well organized and cared for: clean rooms, a cozy common area, a well-equipped kitchen, and good Wi-Fi. I had a wonderful stay, and whether you're traveling alone or with others, it's a lovely place to relax, meet people, and enjoy your trip. I'd definitely come back!

There are lots of social spaces, though it'd be nice if they organized events and made more use of them. The rooms were spacious and fine, the bathrooms and beds clean, and the location was alright, close to the beach. Service was good, but I booked a female dorm and the male attendant came in several times without knocking. That didn't feel reassuring. The AC is centrally controlled, which I understand, but one night the room was hot and set to 25 degrees, especially uncomfortable in the humidity. There was also a two-day Buddhist festival at the temple directly opposite. The singing and drums through huge speakers went on all day and night, and the noise was ridiculous. The festival is great, of course, but if the hostel owner had warned us when I booked, we wouldn't have stayed. I barely slept. I'd avoid this spot during Poya or another Buddhist festival.

The beds were really comfortable, with plenty of storage to keep your things in your own space. Rooms have AC, and there's fast Wi-Fi and a working lounge. Towels are available to rent, and the washing service is available too. Everything was cleaned daily, probably among the cleanest hostels I've stayed in during my last 12 months of travel. The Hostel is near the beach and shops but away from street traffic noise. The staff were friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. Shout out to Dayasiri for his coffee making skills, thank you! Great quality for the price. Highly recommend, and I'll be back one day for sure.
