Tea Bush Hotel - Nuwara Eliya

We’re from India and had planned to spend a couple of days at Tea Bush hotel in Nuwara Eliya. Then cyclone Ditwah stranded us there. Roads were closed, the town lost connections for a few days, and we couldn’t get out to catch our flight. There was no internet or network coverage, so we couldn’t even tell our family we were safe. Once it was clear we’d be stuck, the management told us to stay until things returned to normal. Chamila Sir and Sumith sir took special care to make sure we were safe. The manager went to check with the police early every morning for road updates and passed the information on to us. We ended up staying three extra days before we could finally get to Colombo. The hotel didn’t charge us a single rupee for the extra room and food, even though we kept insisting. They said looking after us in such a time was their duty. Food is a basic need in a difficult situation, but they still put a lot of care into it. When we left for Colombo, they packed lunch so we wouldn’t have to stop on the way and could get there as early as possible. Not all heroes wear capes, and you both proved that. We’re grateful for the way the hotel cared for us. The rooms were good, the washrooms clean and the food good as well. Special thanks to Nuwan for letting our family know we were safe.
