The staff were the best part of our stay. When the electrical power in our villa blew two of our charging blocks, they cleaned another room and carried all our luggage to help us move. The hotel is in a quiet, peaceful spot, with a lovely garden and pool. Our room was spacious, with air conditioning, netting, tea and coffee facilities, and bottled water. The restaurant was good value and faced the gardens, and there’s an elevated lookout over a paddy field that was beautiful and peaceful. The rooms could use some updating, but all in all we had a lovely stay.

The room was small, and the power went out now and then, though that’s to be expected in a treehouse. We still loved our stay. The views are second to none, the food was amazing, and I had the best coconut roti I’ve ever tasted. The staff and owner were super friendly and helpful, and they remembered my vegan diet at every meal. We’d recommend it!

We spent three nights here and came away with mixed feelings. The staff were genuinely lovely: reception was friendly, and the breakfast and dinner team were kind and attentive throughout. The property is well kept, and we especially liked having a small private terrace in front of the bungalow. With mosquito repellent, it was a nice place to sit in the evenings. The room itself was a bungalow-style unit, big enough, with reasonably comfortable beds. But it smelled musty when we arrived. Airing it out showed that the odor seemed to come from the sink in the little tea and coffee area. The drain couldn’t be closed, so smells came up through the pipe. Covering it with a cup helped a bit. The bathroom was the main letdown. Cleanliness and upkeep fell short, the shower curtain needs replacing, and the windows and sills need a proper clean. Some fixtures were old and unstable. The toilet seat was thin, a little loose, and discolored. There was almost nowhere to keep toiletries, apart from a tiny soap dish on the shower rail. I’d give the bathroom 3 out of 10, the coffee and sink area 5, and the sleeping area 6. The sofa had visible stains, storage was limited, and one side of the bed had no bedside table or light, which was inconvenient. Breakfast was simple but adequate, with fresh fruit, a rice and egg dish made on request, yogurt, toast, butter, jam, coffee, tea, milk, and one fruit juice at the buffet. Dinner can be ordered from a menu of snacks and local dishes, with beer, wine, and a reasonably sized drinks list. The WiFi worked, though it could be stronger and steadier, around 6 to 7 out of 10. The hotel is about two kilometers from the start of the village. Tuk-tuks come out, but the road is bumpy and drivers can be hesitant, so the trip takes a little longer. Our stay was acceptable, since a holiday isn’t all about the room, but we wouldn’t book this particular room again. Other rooms may be better, as the hotel has higher ratings overall. Compared with our previous place in Sri Lanka, this one felt noticeably more basic.

We had a really pleasant stay at the Hideout. The spacious rooms and pool were a treat, and the staff were very attentive. A special mention to chef Joseph, whose decades in the industry showed in the lovely local breakfasts he made for us. He also came out each morning for a friendly chat. Thanks to the whole team 🙏

The nature all around made this place so relaxing, and the food was the best part. I spent three days here with my girlfriend. The room was ok, and the workers were always attentive to what we needed. Absolutely spectacular.
