The Otunna Guest House

Our chalet was spacious and spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds and a hot, powerful shower. Dinesh and his family made us feel completely looked after. Their welcome, hospitality, help, and amazing breakfasts will be a highlight of our time in Sri Lanka. The breakfast was the best we’ve ever had, plentiful and so tasty. Dinesh and his team are some of the most genuine, lovely people I’ve had the pleasure of staying with. Otunna is worth every penny, and I’d highly recommend it.

Dinesh and his family were always around to help with whatever we needed during our wonderful ten days at Otunna Guest house. The clean, comfortable rooms sit in a tropical garden, and the food was amazing, with plenty of variety so you won’t go hungry. The location also works well for the Fortress Rock, Elephant Safari, and Ancient Cities. We highly recommend it and hope to return one day.

The hotel apartments sit right in the heart of a real jungle, even more impressive in person than the photos suggest. The owners greeted us with big smiles and a delicious passion fruit welcome drink. The room had everything we could need, including drinks in the fridge, slippers in the bathroom, and a mosquito repellent plugged into the socket. We had to leave early and couldn’t eat breakfast there, so the owner packed it for us and even prepared a portion for our driver. It was delicious and generous. You can tell this place is run with real passion and care for guests. I recommend it with a clear conscience.

Dinesh and the family are wonderful hosts, charming without being overbearing, and always glad to arrange tuktuks or tours. On two of my three mornings, they were up to check I was ok when I had early starts, at 4:45am to climb Pidurangala for sunrise and 6am to visit Polonnaruwa. The breakfasts were the most extravagant I’ve had so far in Sri Lanka, and delicious. They tried to pack most of mine for the early trip to Polonnaruwa. Dinner was just as delicious and extravagant, with rice and curry. I thought it was much better than the dining options nearby, though perhaps a bit pricey compared with other places in Sri Lanka. For a tourist area, and given the quantity and quality, it was still reasonable. The tree filled garden was lovely and peaceful. I’m a light sleeper and couldn’t hear road noise. You have your own cabin, and the room and bathroom were very well designed and comfortable. For travellers, I think Otunna in Sigiriya is the most well put together package. Highly recommend staying here!
