The apartment itself was pretty, and the location was still fairly convenient, but getting there was awkward: the keys had to be collected across the Old Town. The building entrance was dark, dirty and smelly. Inside, the bed was very hard, and the open window had left the whole place freezing when we arrived. There were no instructions for turning on the heating, and the blinds didn't keep the light out. The door lock was stiff and hard to use.

The place was clean and much larger than we expected, with a washing machine and plenty of cooking equipment. We picked up the keys at an office in the Old Town, and the friendly staff showed us how to get to the apartment. Its location in the Old Town was great, and for the price, the value was fantastic.

Getting the keys was easy, and the apartment was good value. Ours was basic but had what we needed, with a charming rustic feel. It's right in the heart of Riga's Old Town, though reaching it means climbing three floors on an original, steep wooden staircase. Simple accommodation, but a good stay.

Please don't book here if you care about yourself. The flat was so dirty we had to clean it before using it, and it's on the fifth floor with no lift. There’s a pub downstairs, with noisy people until 3 a.m.
