The hostel is a little quiet, so our stay wasn't as sociable as we'd hoped. I think we were just unlucky with the number of people there. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and we liked having a proper common room and a large, well-equipped kitchen. Free breakfast made it good value. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Old Town and roughly the same to the train and bus stations. There are also some very good bars and cafes within five minutes on foot.

The manager was attentive, and the kitchen and living area were nice. The bathrooms and showers were spotlessly clean, and I met some interesting people while I was there. This is a clean, comfortable, safe and affordable hostel in central Riga's Old Town, in a large apartment that's been converted for guests. A good deal if you're watching your budget.

It felt more like a big shared apartment, which made the stay really pleasant. We arrived late at night and were still greeted by very friendly staff. The room was clean, with amazing beds, and breakfast was modest but good. The location was fine too, since Riga isn't a very large city. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

Alex was so nice and welcoming, and made us feel at home. The Funky Hostel was our favorite place we stayed on our whole trip through the Baltic region. It had cute decor and was very clean, and the breakfast had more choices than we expected. I loved being able to get up and make coffee in the kitchen. The location worked well for us: although it's outside the Old Town, it was only a 10-15 minute walk, and we enjoyed seeing the less touristy area nearby. It's several floors up with no elevator, but I didn't mind the extra exercise.

You'll need to carry your luggage up four floors and help keep the shared areas tidy. With that in mind, Funky Barons Hostel offers great value and a very home-like atmosphere. The staff keep things clean and organized, are easy to reach, and provide little extras like tea and coffee. There's a key card system, and the location in the central district is great, about a 15-minute walk from the Old Town. I had a lovely stay.
