The room was already dirty when I moved in, and everything in it was dirty or broken. Cockroaches are common enough, and the whole building smells. Staff are often unfriendly and give misleading information. Good luck getting your security deposit back when you leave. It's disappointing that the University still runs this place in its current condition. The worst.
Getting to university faculties or the city center is manageable thanks to the public transport connections. Prima Hostel - LU is a good budget option for LU students and other university students looking for a longer stay in Riga. The rooms are basic but clean, with what you need for a comfortable stay while studying or working. The shared kitchen and laundry are well maintained, and residents have a friendly, communal atmosphere. As part of the University of Latvia's housing, it feels functional and secure for people on a budget.
The hygiene is so bad I couldn't even cook in the kitchen. Cockroaches are everywhere, including in the bedroom, and they may crawl over your blanket. Some residents don't seem to care about cleanliness.
I stayed in the dorm for a year. Cockroaches are common, and the place is unsanitary. Staff are generally very disorganized, especially when it comes to payments. If you're a student considering this place, you'd be better off renting your own apartment.
I've lived in Prima for four and a half years, and the experience has been excellent. Everyone is so warm and welcoming. The manager is kind and courteous, and makes everyone feel welcome. Uncle Victor deserves a special mention. He's the best uncle I've ever known, devoted to everyone, and they all care about him in return.
