Hotel Al Massira

The staff were so kind when we overslept, something we'd never done on a trip before. They called to check on us and kept breakfast available past the usual time. That's why I'm giving four stars. The room was clean, the restaurant food was good, and the staff were friendly, but the hallway smelled strongly of cat urine. Wi-Fi was awful wherever we tried it, and the shower never got warm, let alone hot. The shower curtain had marks that I hoped were rust stains.

The staff were great, and the facilities were adequate, though dated. Wi-Fi was terrible in my room but worked great in the lobby. I also found some trash in the room at check-in, probably something the cleaning lady missed. No big deal.

The traditional pictures inside the hotel are a nice touch, and the lobby and two open interior areas catch a fresh breeze on the hottest days. The integrated restaurant has a limited selection, but the food is good quality, and the employees are very friendly. The same goes for the bar in the lobby. There’s a pool if you want to swim. In the center of Laayoune, it’s a nice, safe place to stay, not far from the Congres, the Placa, or even the airport, with quick access to other spots. The rooms aren't especially modern, but they're roomy, clean, and the fridges work. You might find cheaper or newer places, but I can recommend this traditional spot.

I stayed here in 1994 and came away with a lot of special memories. The food was outstanding, the people were great, and the staff and everyone who supported us made it a memorable adventure. Thank you.
