Dar Lys

I want to complain about what happened when I booked this dar in Fes through Booking.com. The offer was a deluxe room for three, with breakfast, at 4,800 dirham. The website then suggested contacting the hotel directly for a better rate, so I spoke with Mohammed, a manager, by phone and WhatsApp. He told me not to book through Booking.com and promised his best rate. He also said he'd move us from the deluxe room, which was too small for me, my husband, and daughter, to a superior room with a balcony. When we arrived, they put us in a deluxe room and charged almost 6,000 dirham. It had an extra bed, and they asked me to pay extra for that, even though Booking.com hadn't said I needed to pay for another bed. I feel cheated: Mohammed had said it would be a superior room with a balcony, but I was checked into a deluxe room. I have photos showing the room type. The first night was noisy because of another guest, and I understand that wasn't the hotel's fault. But the hotel stayed noisy the rest of the night and on the other nights too. At 4 a.m. there were people moving around, banging or dropping things, and very loud music. I called at 11:15 one night to ask them to turn it down because there was a speaker in the corridor and the music was far too loud. It seems to play loudly during dinner time as well. They also advertise high speed internet. It worked the first night, but after that there was no internet all night. When I called, they blamed a problem with Morocco's government. I don't believe that explanation. This was a very bad experience, and I don't want anyone else to be misled the way I was. Buthina awachi

The seating area inside gets sun all day, which I think is rare for places in Fes. We stayed five nights at Dar Lys after heating problems at another riad with higher reviews, and the difference was huge. Dar Lys was easily five times nicer and made our time in Fes so much better. It's a five-minute walk from the old medina, yet feels calm, spotless, and luxurious when you come back after a long day exploring fes’s medina. Some reviews in Morocco have struck me as inflated or questionable, including one about a walking tour of all your friends' shops. That wasn't our experience here. Dar Lys delivered what it promised and was a truly great stay.

Breakfast was varied and delicious, served with care, and the rooms were comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. The whole team was kind and professional. Thanks to them for the warm welcome at Dar Lys, which felt like a peaceful haven in the middle of the medina and made us feel at home straight away. I left with wonderful memories and hope to return soon. 💛

Beautiful riad, though it was expensive. Being at the edge of the Medina may help if your guide comes by car and needs parking. The air conditioning was weak and switched itself off overnight, so we had to turn it on again several times. The bathroom door scraped the floor and stuck, maybe because the wood had expanded, so hopefully they'll catch that. Breakfast came set and was all sugar and dairy, with pastries and bread, but we could ask for an egg omelet.
