Palais Walid

The bathrooms are tiny, and customer service was practically nonexistent. I spent two weeks in this hell hole and was moved four times. Worst hotel in the area.

The staff were not welcoming and were very unhelpful.

The breakfast was the only part of this stay I liked. I booked for €15 a day through Booking.com, but the room I got was lower quality than what I reserved, with two beds. When a friend joined me, they charged us €40 more for a smaller room, then asked extra for air conditioning that was supposed to be included. They also made me cancel the Booking.com reservation. I can only guess they wanted to prevent a review and avoid paying commission. The whole thing was a disaster, with an argument from the moment I arrived. Staff only speak Darija, and the man running the place seemed very untrustworthy, lying more than he spoke. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless the management changes.

We left after just one night and found another riad where we could actually enjoy Fez. The breakfast was small but tasty, and the tea offered when we first arrived was very good. Finding the place was difficult: taxis can't enter the medina, but a young man helped us reach the riad. Then, without warning, we were taken to another building a few streets away. There was no sign outside, and a young man who spoke Spanish greeted us and tried to sell us an official guide. We said no, and he immediately wanted payment for two nights in advance. When I asked the riad's name, he said Palais Walid 2 and explained it was several accommodations, supposedly all the same, including breakfast. Our room was a disgrace: dark and dirty, with a damp, broken bathroom, no soap, torn towels, and a ripped bed with no sheets. The only ventilation was a little hole in the wall. I would never return.
