Hotel Jardin Public

The terrace was a lovely place to spend the evening with a mint tea and enjoy the view. I stayed four days at Hotel Jardin, which is conveniently close to the medina, and the staff made it memorable. Everyone was kind and attentive, especially Mohammed, who kept checking if I needed anything and was always smiling. Breakfast had a generous selection, and the coffee tasted just right. I’d happily come back.

The riad is easy to find if you follow the signs rather than GPS, and there’s private parking just outside for 20dh/day. It’s a beautiful, well-kept old building just beyond the Medina, with a city-facing terrace that serves as a restaurant and bar. Staff were friendly, and breakfast was good. The downsides were the dim room lighting and tiny, smelly bathrooms. There wasn’t room to hang towels outside, and nowhere to put them inside the toilet while showering.

The rooftop is fantastic, and the location is very good with really nice people. There was a bit of a smell, though it seems common throughout Fes. If you’re arriving by car, parking can be trickier than expected. The official 5mad parking fee didn’t seem to apply because the ticket machine appeared to be manipulated, and we were charged 15mad per day to have the vehicle guarded. That isn’t the hotel’s fault, but it’s useful to know.

Right by the medina, which is a great spot, though the alley gets noisy. Service was a mixed bag. The older man was very kind, but spoke only French to us. A younger guy wasn’t much help when we asked questions, and got annoyed when we asked to break 100 into smaller bills. He just said no and walked off. Another woman was able to make change for us.
