Riad Fès – Relais & Chateaux

Dinner was the one part that didn’t match the rest of the hotel experience. The food and wine were delicious, but some details were missed: we asked for still water and got sparkling, no one checked back after the meals arrived, and we poured our own wine. That felt surprising for fine dining. We stayed in a suite, and the rooms were beautiful and peaceful. From check-in through check-out, service was exceptional. Everyone, from the hotel concierge to the porters, went above and beyond. Breakfast was included and had lots of variety, which we appreciated after getting the usual Moroccan breakfast at every other riad we stayed in. The porter took our bags to the taxi stand and hailed a taxi for us too. What a beautiful riad in the Medina.

Breakfast was superb, and the staff were welcoming and efficient. The food at Gayza restaurant in Riad Fes was exceptional. It deserves its Michelin star, and easily beat other similarly rated restaurants we tried in Fes. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and luxurious, blending traditional, opulent architecture and design with modern comfort. Our stay was memorable and very comfortable.

The Hammam Spa treatment at Riad Fes was one-of-a-kind princess treatment. Jameela scrubbed and pampered me so expertly that I came out feeling like a newborn, and I’ve been floating on air ever since. It’s not an experience for shy people, but if you relax and enjoy it, you’ll feel like a new person. My mom and I were recommended the treatment, and I can’t say enough good things about it. The rooftop bar was lovely, and I had a superb passionfruit cocktail called “Golden Medina.” Next time I hope to stay in the beautiful rooms too. The kitchen had a gas problem that made our food a challenge, but the staff were charming and offered us a complimentary glass of wine to make up for it. Very classy people. I can’t wait to come back and will recommend it to everyone I know. See yall again!

This is only about the restaurant. I was treated to a very expensive meal two nights ago. The waiter apologized for the poor service, saying many staff were on holiday, but there was nothing he could do about the awful food. The beef tangine was overcooked green beans with a small, tough piece of meat. There was no grain, and the promised ginger sauce never came. My meal wasn’t an exception, everyone’s food was poor quality.
