Dar El Kharaz

The location made it easy to reach everything. We were on a quiet street, right in the middle of things, and could walk to the Grande Place in five minutes. The Riad is simple, but cosy and very nice. Liliane made us feel at home and shared lots of sightseeing tips. The housekeeper was lovely too, and made us a very good Marrokkan breakfast. We had a few really lovely days in Marrakech and can definitely recommend the place.

We stayed here in 2019 and really liked how quiet and cosy it felt. At night you're on your own, which could put some people off, but others might see that as a nice bonus.

There isn't any guard at the riad, so you're alone at night without security. The old gas heaters feel unsafe. Not recommended. We left on the second night.

The owner’s response to my complaints was rude, and she brought up that I’m American. That felt especially ironic since she lives in BELGIUM, not Morocco. The whole stay turned what should have been a relaxing visit to Marrakesh into a mess, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Finding the riad was difficult. It’s down a back alley with no proper sign. Following the directions for le bain bleu doesn’t lead you to it, and if you do find the entrance, the name “kharez” is sloppily painted on a wall. Before I arrived, the owner sent a “welcome” text saying there would be a 20€ late arrival charge. It isn’t listed on Booking.com, which the owner admitted. My flight was late, and I would have booked somewhere else if I’d known about the fee. I also couldn’t get a clear answer from the woman working there about breakfast or a later checkout. I couldn’t find her after breakfast when I called from downstairs. On my checkout morning, I asked if I could stay until twelve. She nodded and said okay, and I repeated the question to check she understood. Then, at 11:20, while I was in the shower, she yelled through the door for me to check out. When I reminded her that morning’s agreement, she said she hadn’t understood.
