Riad Marrakech House

The Riad’s rooms were filthy and in terrible shape, with visible mold in the bathroom. I complained and was moved to another room, but it had the same issues. That points to poor management and a lack of basic cleanliness. The property also didn’t match its description or photos. This was a very disappointing stay, and I’d strongly recommend booking somewhere else.

The pool was the biggest letdown. At first it looked like a swamp, and although it wasn’t green a couple of days later, the water was still murky. There were cigarette butts in it too, so we didn’t use it. Our room didn’t look anything like the booking photos. The toilet was right beside the shower, which flooded it each time we showered, and the shower couldn’t be moved away from the wall, making it awkward to use. We got one roll of toilet paper and two small towels that looked as if they’d been forgotten in a cupboard for decades. The bed was alright, and at least the bedding was clean. One socket was coming out of the wall, a lamp had a broken plug and didn’t work, and we had to ask before a hair dryer was brought to the room. At check-in, the man at the front desk asked for local fees, which I already knew about, but quoted 500 MAD, around £40, when the correct amount was £25. I showed him, and we paid the right price. A young boy was sent to show us to the room, but he said he’d take the stairs while we used the lift. The lift was full of cleaning supplies and smelled strongly of bleach, so we took the stairs and couldn’t find him. The place was over 40 minutes from the things we wanted to see, so we took Ubers everywhere. That was manageable, but annoying. We didn’t try breakfast and didn’t feel like we wanted to. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The invoice I got at checkout had neither a stamp nor a signature, which seemed strange. The price also felt unjustified: this was my first Marrakech hotel with such a high rate and such low quality. Service was poor, the room was dirty, and the bed was very uncomfortable. There was no hot water, and the air conditioner fan was noisy even with the window properly shut. Breakfast was limited to cheese, eggs, and tea, and it didn’t taste fresh. My experience today was very disappointing.

The location is right in the middle of the city, which was perfect. Service was good too. But the mattress had large yellow marks and was dirty, so the rooms need attention. We spent the night here.
