We were right in the middle of the Medina, with so much nearby in every direction, yet the Riad felt like a private little oasis down its alley. The staff at Alma Mouassine were so welcoming and attentive while still giving us plenty of freedom. Breakfast in the central courtyard was lovely each day, and I really liked the decor details and rooftop terrace. There was sometimes noise from the birds in the courtyard tree and from guests on the stairs, which carries in the old building. That was one of the few downsides. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Fahrouk was the best, and the rest of the staff were great too. They gave useful directions for wherever we wanted to go, including bus stops and taxis. We felt safe, and the Riad supplied a padlock and key for securing the room when we went out. Everyone has to leave before it can be locked, though, so it won’t work if someone wants to stay in while another person goes out. There were a few short power cuts. Maybe there’s a backup generator. The AC worked well with a remote, and the Wi-Fi was good. Our floor also had a courtyard-facing patio with chairs and a table, nice for hanging out or having a snack. Bring dinars or euros for checkout, since taxes and fees can only be paid in cash. My daughter wanted a local place instead of a Western-style hotel. This is probably one of the better Riads, maybe the best, but it is local accommodation and won’t suit anyone looking for a Western-style stay. The handcrafted tiles in the shared areas are gorgeous. It’s right by the shops and a three-minute walk from Jemaa el Fnaa and the Medina. That closeness means the taxi drop-off on the main street is still a ten-minute walk away, over cobblestones made for carts and local motorcycles. With luggage, it’s a cumbersome trudge. I had just one light roller and could lift it most of the way. Big, heavy bags may need new wheels or different luggage. Breakfast was an enjoyable spread of local breads, dips, and spreads. Our rooms were small, with the bare minimum: two smallish nightstands, no table or chairs. We had a double and a single. The single mattress sagged from age or use and hurt my back, but flipping it over fixed the sag. Noise from the courtyard carried into the rooms because there’s no wall insulation. The closets were large, though the shelves were too high to be useful. Hanging clothes were fine. The bathroom was small but worked for us, though a large person might not fit. Hot water came and went, then was completely gone on our third day.

The staff made the stay for us. Samir, Jamila, Farok, Simo, Mariam, Abdo, and Hakim were all attentive and full of useful information. We’ll miss them and will definitely come back. The beautiful riad is right in the medina centre near the square, but inside it’s a calm place to relax after a busy day.

After six nights, I left feeling like a friend rather than a stranger. The staff made us feel valued from arrival to departure and clearly wanted us to have a good stay. It was quiet at night, I slept really well, and breakfast was excellent. The location was perfect. I’ll stay here again when I return to Marrakech.

We came as a big group, and the staff made sure we were well looked after, from a great breakfast to restaurant reservations and regular check-ins to see how we were doing. Such sweet people, and a perfect spot in the heart of the Medina. Thank you! We’ll be back 🤍🫶🏼
