Riad Amina

The staff were very friendly, and the airport transfer was easy and smooth. Our room was clean, with fresh towels each day, and breakfast was delicious. My wife and I also had a hammam and massage, which was really relaxing. Staying here gave us an authentic Morocco feeling, and we loved it.

Yusef welcomed us warmly, gave us a map marked with places to see, and offered advice. That service is why I’m giving two stars. For a hotel rated four stars, though, the room and “paddle pool” were disappointing. It felt more like a two- or three-star place, with small details that could have made a difference. The door lock used a key and was easy to open, so I didn’t feel safe. We went on an excursion and found that someone had entered our room and taken our towels, which weren’t replaced. We couldn’t find anyone to help, so we had to go into the maids’ storage room and get towels ourselves. The tiny bathroom had no curtain, so water went all over the floor. That was especially annoying without a foot towel. At 7 am checkout, nobody was around to take our keys, so we left them on the desk. I was also disappointed by the pool. I’m 5 ft 3, and it was only a little bigger than me. The water looked mucky, so we didn’t get in.

The main riad space was bright and lovely, and our room was spacious and very clean. We had a lovely few days at Riad Amina, with staff who were kind and helpful. Their excellent English made things easier for us as tourists.

We only came to Riad for dinner and didn’t stay overnight. They took us without a reservation, but it still took an hour and 45 minutes just to bring bread. We finished our wine before any food arrived, and our seven-year-old niece was starving. When food finally came, we got only the main dishes, not the appetizers, so we decided to eat what we had and pay. Then we waited another 15 minutes for the bill, and my husband went to pay at the office. That’s when things got much worse. They charged us for a tabouhle salad we hadn’t ordered. When it arrived, I asked about it, and our server said it came with the falafel, which never arrived. We ate the salad because we were so hungry. When we disputed the charge, the manager yelled insults at us and called us horrible people. He nearly got into a physical altercation with my husband and had to be held back. I work in hospitality and have never been treated like that. Don’t waste your time here. There are much better places with great hospitality. The one bright spot was that the tagines were tasty.
