Riad Chergui

The quiet was striking: Marrakech is busy outside, but inside Riad Chergui felt like an escape from all the tourist activity. The courtyard and pool were relaxing, and the design throughout was lovely and thoughtfully done. Our room was at the end, above the pool, with a great view. They also chose it strategically for us with our 2 yo, so we only had one flight of stairs. Riads don’t have lifts, and after seeing Marrakech, you’ll understand why. We worried our toddler might make noise, but the other guests couldn’t hear it from there. We had a two-night stay and highly recommend it. The staff were polite and helpful, still smiling when we checked in on a busy Saturday afternoon. One staff member met us at the drop-off point from our Morocco tour. The receptionist, whose name I’ve forgotten, welcomed us, checked our passports, gave us a welcome book with the menu, Wi-Fi passwords, and tourist tips, then showed us to our room even though he was busy. The food was another highlight. The lamb tagine was the best tasting one we had, with none of the aftertaste or aroma some lamb can have. The recipe is apparently a secret. We also enjoyed the seafood pastilla, which had Chinese influences and felt nostalgic. Breakfast was great too, and helped fuel us for the maze of the inner city. We’d seen photos of the Riad, and our tour group, Suntrails Morocco, had also recommended it. From the rooftop you can see other parts of the inner city. During Ramadan we waited there for sunset and the call. If we return to Marrakech, we’ll stay here again.

Emmanuelle and her team are always polite and so helpful. This is my second visit, and it won’t be my last. The Riad is in a fantastic location.

We loved the peaceful feel around the pool, especially how warm it was at dinner time. The Riad has a luxurious setting, and the staff are kind while staying professional. It’s calm but gives quick access to all the Marrakech sights you need to see. I’d happily come back.

We especially liked having a pool, a tasty breakfast, and a bar, since most restaurants don’t serve alcohol. The whole Riad was lovely and close to the main tourist sights. The owners and staff were welcoming and quick to communicate and respond to our requests. They arranged airport transport for an extra cost, and even catered to two gluten-free travelers in our group.
