Riad Lumière D'Orient

My family’s first visit to Marrakech was spoiled by this experience, and I can’t recommend the riad to anyone who cares about safety, trust, and professionalism. I stayed in Room 19 from November 10th to 15th. While we were away on a full-day excursion, housekeeping entered the room, and when we got back my Versace sunglasses worth €370 were gone. I travel often for work as cabin crew and stay in hotels all over the world. I’ve left personal belongings, sometimes much more valuable, clearly visible before and never had anything disappear. This was unacceptable. We raised the issue with the manager. He acknowledged it and agreed to reimburse the sunglasses’ value. For several days he stayed in touch and gave us a number of dates for when the payment would be processed, but it never came. Once we checked out, he stopped responding altogether. At the riad’s request, we held off contacting Booking.com or posting a negative review while waiting for a resolution. We trusted that request, and have been ignored ever since. A hotel admitting to a serious problem and then cutting off communication is unacceptable. The lack of responsibility and transparency is alarming. Sadly, the whole stay was the opposite of what I’d wanted for my family.

We had booked seven nights but left after just one. The place was awful, with a dirty location that felt very unsafe. Our room was cold, damp, mouldy, and had no hot water, nothing like the photos. The hotel refused to offer any compensation. The group who checked in before us had complained too. Not nice at all.

Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was generous and really enjoyable, and everyone was incredibly kind. We got a very warm welcome when we visited as a couple at the end of January. The riad is on a quiet side street, very well placed if you want to be near the famous square. I brought earplugs for the night, but my partner didn’t have any and found it a bit noisy. It is still a riad, not a hotel complex. Thanks to all the lovely people 🩷
