Riad Zanzibar

The pool and roof both close early in the evening, just when it’s cooler and people might want to use them. We paid far too much for what was offered, and the limited hours made it hard to enjoy the place as we wanted. Absolutely unacceptable. The rooms don’t match the photos, and the service was very bad. Our room wasn’t clean enough and had mold everywhere. There was nothing provided in the room, not even a mini fridge to keep water cold. Breakfast cost 50 DH MAD and was the worst I’ve ever had: orange juice that seemed to be powder mixed with water, and bread with one egg. They didn’t seem to care or check in on us. When we were leaving with several suitcases, we were struggling to bring them down from the top floor. I had one foot on the stairs and one on the floor, carrying two cases, when a maid stopped me to ask for the room key. No hello or good morning, just a rude demand. SCAM, the photos are fake, and the upcharge is extreme.

We found it quiet and lovely, close to Marrakech’s main market square. There’s a mosque a short walk away and lots of places to eat. The staff were very friendly and brought us coffee so we could have breakfast in the sunshine on the open roof. The facilities aren’t especially luxurious, but they’re perfectly fine for a short stay and as a base for sightseeing.

We felt very welcome at this charming riad in the Medina, and the quality was good for the price. Just keep in mind that, as with many Medina streets, a taxi can’t drop you right at the door. Make sure you know the way, have a Moroccan SIM card, or have navigation that works.

Riad Zanzibar is tucked away on a central hidden street, so there was no traffic noise, and there’s a big parking area with plenty of taxis nearby. We enjoyed the nearby cafés, the fresh, delicious breakfast, and the rooftop, where you can sunbathe any time of day. Our room met expectations, and they cleaned it and did our laundry whenever we asked. Badr arranged several transfers to the places we wanted to visit at a fair price. The owners are lovely too. We had a great time and highly recommend it.
