Mamora Bay

Nothing else I stayed in during my 10 days traveling around Morocco came close to being this bad. I tried eight places, including hotels, riads, and Airbnbs, and this was easily the worst. The room was tiny, dark, stuffy, and terribly humid. There were no proper windows, and the odd openings near the ceiling couldn’t be opened. The air felt thick and suffocating, and the bathroom never dried out. Everything stayed damp, so the whole place felt dirty and unpleasant. I couldn’t wait to leave. Calling it uncomfortable would be putting it mildly. It was disgusting and poorly ventilated, and didn’t seem suitable for guests. This completely spoiled what should have been a relaxing stay and was by far the low point of my trip around Morocco. Stay somewhere else.

We were a family group of 18, with brothers, uncles, kids, and others, and felt genuinely welcomed. The staff were warm, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. It didn’t feel like people following a company script, they seemed that way naturally. The interior is beautiful and cozy, and the rooms were spotless. Everyone in our group mentioned how comfortable the beds were. Some bathrooms were perhaps a little small, but they were clean and well built. There’s no elevator, though we didn’t miss having one. We liked the restaurant on the third floor, where breakfast is served. The food and service were really nice, and the view was unusual in a way we all enjoyed: sea, port, and part of a city where old and new sit together, with renovations showing how it’s growing. Breakfast might not be what a European expects, but the fresh food was really good. It tasted real, unlike the chemical stuff at so many chain hotels. For the price, it’s unbeatable. We were glad we chose this place instead of a standard four or five star hotel. It felt down to earth, with people who smiled and helped because they wanted to.

Room service took parts of our belongings, and that made us feel extremely unsafe. It ruined our trip and our impression of the whole country. Our trust was abused, and we won’t return to Mamora Bay, Tangier, or Morocco. It’s frustrating because there were good things: reception was friendly and professional, the rooms were clean, and breakfast was fine. I wish we could give the place a proper rating, but this experience overwhelmed everything else.

We found this restaurant by chance and ended up loving it. The view is beautiful, and the atmosphere inside is calm and cozy. The staff were helpful, attentive, and friendly. We’ll definitely come back.
