Hotel GBH Kale

We stayed for two weeks and by the end, the GBH staff made us feel like family. The king-size bed was more comfortable than the one at home, and the electricity and air conditioning were reliable. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was delicious and affordable, and the Asian buffet breakfast was so good I thought I was in heaven. Laundry came back the same day, too.

The rooms are neat and clean, and the food was the best we found among the hotels. Prices, though, are much higher than at other places and don’t feel reasonable. Staff English is limited, which made communication difficult for us as foreigners. It’s still one of the best hotels available in town.

The menu could use more vegetarian choices. At the moment, besides seaweed salad and an egg, there isn’t much. I also found the rates uneven: locals pay 28000 MMK, while foreigners pay 28 USD, about one and a half times more. Still, my experience was positive. The rooms are clean and have basic toiletries, plus free green tea. Staff are helpful, credit cards are accepted with a 2-3% surcharge, and hot water takes around 10 minutes to arrive. I’d put it around 3.5-4 stars, though there are at least three similar-looking hotels nearby worth checking.

The sunrise from the dining room is beautiful, and the staff are polite, helpful, and well trained. Breakfast was fine, the tea is very nice, and you can order drinks at night. The facilities are good, with AC, a refrigerator, satellite TV, and an ATM from MAB. Most of the furniture is wood, and it’s nice to find bibles in English and Chin. It’s close to the main road, so there’s some noise. The Wi-Fi is poor, but I was okay with it.
