Clover City Center Plus Hotel

For the price, this clean, fairly modern basic three-star hotel is great value. Staff kept it well serviced, the lift worked well for reaching the upper floors, and there was a safe in the room. Breakfast offered a good mix of local and Western food. It was pretty full while we were there.

The staff were the one good part of our stay. After we called about the cockroach in the bathroom, someone came to kill it, and when we had to leave early on our last day, they packed breakfast for us. The hotel itself was a letdown, and the pictures were misleading. The sheets were stained and clearly very used. The shower isn't enclosed, which I don't mind, but the drain is by the toilet, so water covered the whole floor. I wouldn't recommend Clover Hotel City Center if you're looking for a luxurious stay.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the room made this the worst hotel we stayed at during our month in Myanmar. There were cockroaches, and a strong sewage smell hung around most of the time, worse than what we encountered at an average hotel in Myanmar. The large bed was two twins pushed together under one sheet, with separate comforters, so the seam down the middle made it uncomfortable. We paid extra for breakfast, which was a microwaved plate of egg, beans, meat, and fruit. It wasn't worth the extra cost. The photos and location look appealing, but there must be better options in downtown Yangon for the same price or a little more.

The rooms are basic, and there's no restaurant or bar. Breakfast is limited and aimed at Western tourists, but we found it unappealing. Still, for a city-center hotel at this price, it's acceptable. Having air conditioning is a real help in Yangon, which was surprisingly hot and sticky compared with the rest of Myanmar, and the rooms also have fridges.
