Hotel Myitkyina

The hotel is near downtown. From the train station it’s a long walk, so with luggage I’d take a three-wheeled cycle. Backpackers can walk. You can’t leave from the south side of the station, though, so go west to the first main road, then south to the hotel. Rooms are cleaner, newer, and nicer than Madeira Hotel, and prices are similar or a little lower. The local staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help. You can rent a motorbike. Last time I was there it cost 8,000MMK/day, though I hear that may rise soon. Breakfast is free and buffet style, with the same spread each day: Myanmar curry, fried rice and noodles, fried eggs, fresh fruit, bread, coffee (terrible), tea, cold cereal, and soup. It’s clean, decent food, better than a teashop, and saves a bit of money. For good coffee, Pizza Corners opens early and has a nice river view. Rooms are kept clean, but if you’re staying a while, you may have to remind them to clean daily so they don’t skip a day. They leave free water each day. Internet can be spotty, though sometimes it’s quite fast. Otherwise, it’s only good for email. Probably the best hotel in Myitkyina right now.

Rooms are large, clean, and fully equipped, with hot water. There’s a big lift, spacious enclosed parking, and excellent WiFi. Breakfast is good, and the staff are very polite. With these good features, it’s a hotel worth choosing for both local and international visitors. You can call the number shown in the Google Maps photos for more information.

Breakfast was good, but the cleaning was poor during my two-day stay: on the second day they didn’t change the bedsheets or clean the bathtub. The hotel view and its immediate surroundings weren’t very nice either. It’s nearly a 40-minute walk from Manau park.

A mid-range hotel in downtown Myitkyina, with good service for the price. It’s also well placed for getting around easily.
