Golden Myanmar Guest House

I had a really comfortable two-night stay in July 2025. It felt like great value, and it’s a nice family-run guest house. The couple were friendly and accommodating, and helped me book bus tickets and an ebike. The location is handy for town too.

This is my third time staying at this hotel, and I’ve been completely satisfied every time. Greetings from the Czech Republic.

For budget travel, this place is okay, and the hot water worked great. The A/C barely cooled the room, and check-in was a frustrating experience. When we arrived, the toilet tank wasn’t filling. Staff filled it manually with the toilet hose and said it was fixed, but I had to raise it again. They put the two of us in a room with three beds, then told us we’d need to move again in the morning. That would have meant leaving our things in the lobby for the second day of our two-day stay. I argued and was eventually allowed to keep the room another night after insisting on a discount, which they refused to give. I almost wish I’d switched, because the bathroom in the ground-floor room smelled from plumbing issues. Maybe that explains why the room was still available when the hotel was sold out and why they wanted me to move, but nobody explained any of that.

The owner is a very kind, helpful guy who speaks a couple of languages, including English and Chinese. I’ve stayed at Golden Myanmar Guesthouse a couple of times while in Bagan. It’s in a handy spot near food and drink shops, with easy access to lots of tourist sites. They also rent bicycles, great for riding out to the temples and countryside. Great place to stay!
