Mika Hotel

A comfortable, well-run boutique hotel with a gate. The Mika Hotel is just off Embassy Road, close to the heart of UB.

Better to rent a yurt or choose another hotel. The location is very good, though, just a five-minute walk from the main city square. The room was dirty and the shower clogged. Garbage came back up through the shower pan from the sink. After I complained, they said they'd cleaned it, but the gunk kept returning for days. Cleaning was random too, with nobody coming for three or four days, then the room being "cleaned" two days in a row. The WiFi gets one star only because it sometimes works after a restart. They use one cheap TP-Link per floor, left at factory settings except for the SSID. The connection was at best 5/2M, and every few minutes latency jumped above 8000 ms. Staff speak no foreign languages, so you'll be fine if you speak Mongolian. Breakfast at the restaurant was served randomly between 8:05 and 8:20. One day they stopped serving coffee and gave us bags of instant latte instead.

The central location and good parking were a plus. I liked the hotel's new look after its full renovation in 2024. Everything felt clean, and the rooms were spacious.

The room was hot overnight when the power went out. There was no AC, only an oscillating fan, and the WiFi worked on and off. Construction made the stay worse: they cut a hole in our ceiling and left it open all night, so I could see the stars from bed. Debris also landed on our belongings. When I told the staff, they acknowledged it had happened but didn't seem to understand why that was a problem. They said someone would fix it after I checked out. That kind of ceiling is better suited to camping than a hotel.
