UB Grand Hotel

The view and location were good, but the hotel felt overpriced for what it offered. The facilities had several problems: the elevator acted up now and then, the tap water tasted metallic, the WiFi kept dropping, and the door key setup was troublesome. I stayed four nights, and for about half that time the reception staff on duty didn't really understand English, though they acted as if they did. It led to a lot of wasted time trying to communicate.

The included breakfast was very good, but it was the only real bright spot. The location is great, while the rooms are really poor. I wouldn't recommend booking a stay here.

The location is right in the middle of town, which is great, but the noise at night was awful. A club on the 2nd floor could be heard all the way up on the 12th. The place is a bit dated, though clean and decent otherwise. My room needed both a traditional key and a key card, which I assume was because something was broken. I wouldn't stay again if I had a choice. There wasn't anything worth photographing, so I didn't upload any photos.

The breakfast buffet in the morning was a nice surprise, with plenty to choose from. Before that, a receptionist had pointed me toward the Coffart coffee-shop in the lobby for a refreshment and gave me useful advice on getting my first look around Ulaanbaatar. The hotel is ideally placed in the town center, close to the government, major museums and shops, and a small, lovely park. My room was spacious, had a great view, and came with a clean, well-equipped bathroom. The reception staff were helpful and friendly when I arrived. I'm happy to recommend it to both business travelers and tourists.
