Hotel Royal Macau

The lobby was heavily scented, which bothered both of us because we’re sensitive to perfumes. Breakfast wasn’t included, but the logbooks were fabulous. Everything is close by, with many restaurants nearby and vegan restaurants a healthy walk away, which we were fine with. We stayed in Macau for a few days and were happy with our hotel choice. The room was clean and well kept, with a good view of the park below. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the service was great. We took a taxi from the boat dock and another to the bus station for our trip back to HKG. For the casinos, we used both taxis and the easy public bus. Definitely a great hotel to stay in.

The room was spacious and clean, with good Wi-Fi, a comfortable bed, and a bathtub. I enjoyed unwinding in the heated indoor pool and gym after sightseeing, and there are a couple of good dining options on site, including Portuguese and Shanghainese restaurants. The lobby and shared spaces feel classic and a little old world, polished without being flashy. We were glad to spend a bit more on this 4-star stay. Royal Hotel Macau is in a quieter part of central Macau, within easy walking distance of Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul’s, and plenty of local eateries. It made a convenient base for exploring the city on foot. For the price and location near the historic centre, it worked well, as long as you keep realistic expectations about the room quality and hotel classification. We didn’t have breakfast, so I can’t comment on it.

The location was convenient, just minutes from tourist attractions, the local market, and shops we enjoyed exploring. Buses near the hotel make it easy to reach places like Taipa, and public transport is clean and cheap. The concierge team was helpful, and housekeeping did a great job. I wiped the room down when we checked in and couldn’t find a dusty spot. They even folded the clothes we’d left on the bed. There were a few service issues during our four-night stay in two rooms. On the second day, a housekeeper tsk-ed at my daughter when she asked for bottled water. At check-in, reception said they’d confirm my late checkout request but never did, and the slippers and toothpaste they promised weren’t delivered. At checkout, the receptionist stared at me when I didn’t notice her signaling, even though I wasn’t looking her way and she didn’t say anything. Aside from those problems, it’s a great hotel.

The staff were very helpful, and the hotel was clean and comfortable. There are lots of great places to eat in the neighborhood, and most of Macau’s Michelin-rated food spots and UNESCO sites or attractions are within 20 minutes. One of the best hotel stays I’ve had.
