Hotel Tante Arlette

Getting to the village was a fantastic drive, and everyone made us feel very welcome. Our hire car battery went flat, but Rudolf went above and beyond to help, with a couple of locals and staff pitching in to give us a jump start. The staff were super friendly and helpful throughout. I'm back at the restaurant for a second day in a row, though I'm not staying in a room here. It's such a gorgeous, calming place at the end of the world, with very good Creole food and warm, gentle service.

The food was absolutely delicious, easily the highlight of lunch. Karine, the owner, was warm and welcoming at the start, but after she left the staff seemed unpleasant, like they didn't want to be there. That made the experience disappointing. If the staff had been as attentive and passionate as Karine, this would easily be worth 5 stars.

Breakfast was good, and dinner tasted great too. We ordered rom from a local distillery afterward and were given the whole bottle, so we could serve ourselves as much as we wanted. The food arrived before we'd chosen from the menu, though, and apparently the meal had already been decided for us. We stayed one night at Tante Arlette and were warmly welcomed with a drink. We'd booked a superior room, but were a little disappointed it had no external window. The room was otherwise okay, though cleaning wasn't perfect and there were spots on the madrass.
