Suvaasa Inn

It's the person looking after you who makes a local island stay, and Suvaasa is lucky to have Fernando. Don't get the wrong idea from the nickname, he's Maldivian. He made the whole visit memorable, fascinating, easy, funny and musical, and more. We spent 4 days there, though it felt much longer. One day we went to a picnic island, fished, snorkelled in the middle of nowhere, then had freshly caught grouper at a barbecue. Another day we did traditional line fishing, which was a lot of fun, and afterward they made traditional garudhiya from the tuna we caught. We also enjoyed Maldivian music together, with Fernando drumming bodu beru. Fernando's family prepared all my meals in a homemade, local style, and I can't praise them enough for the true Maldivian flavours. I've been to 15+ islands, and this was the best food I've had. From mashuni and garudhiya to kulhimas and kirugarudhiya, everything was perfect. The accommodation is simple but clean, and Fernando is on watsapp if you need anything. The beach was great and I had it to myself. The ocean and beach are clean, and the thundi gives the place a distinctive feel. You can snorkel right from shore and stay busy for hours. I hope I can return next year, because local islands like this are slowly disappearing due to mass tourism. Thanks again, Fernando, see you, brother, Inshallah.
