The Residence Maldives at Falhumaafushi

The a-la-carte restaurants on site were a highlight, with impressive quality and authentic flavours. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout, even when they weren't on shift, and their smiles added a lot to the holiday. Getting there was easy from the moment we landed at Male International Airport. Staff helped us check in for the domestic flight, escorted us to the lounge, handled our bags through the island flight and speedboat transfer, and we didn't see our suitcases again until we reached our villa. Check-in was smooth too. Our guide explained the facilities on both islands and the premium package, including a couple of dine-in breakfast options. Thanks to the whole team at The Residence Maldives. This was probably the best holiday we've ever had, and I'd highly recommend booking here if you're considering the Maldives. They've set a high standard and made the trip memorable.

A lovely, peaceful place for a 5-6 day break with your partner. The beaches are beautiful, and there are nice spots for swimming and diving. The hotel staff were kind and helpful, and we had an unforgettable stay. We'll come back when we can!

The island is beautiful, the villas are lovely, and the staff were generally warm and helpful. Still, the management and guest handling fell short, and the food didn't consistently feel up to five-star expectations. Our stay at The Residence Falhumaafushi wasn't the luxury Maldives holiday we expected. We hadn't originally picked this resort. We booked through a travel company and felt strongly steered toward it. Only later did we realise how remote it is, nearly 500 km from Malé, with another domestic flight of about an hour after reaching Malé Airport. For travellers coming from far away, the trip is long and complicated. Repeated delays on that connection cost us a whole day, a real disappointment when we'd booked an overwater villa for upwards of $1,800 a night. We were meant to arrive around 3 PM but got in close to midnight after an exhausting journey. Nobody checked whether we needed food or help that night. After 33 hours of travel, we went to bed hungry, which wasn't the welcome we'd expected. The resort said we'd been upgraded to a two-bedroom villa as compensation, but for two people arriving so late after losing a day, that didn't feel meaningful. We never used the second bedroom. If you're travelling from a long way off, especially Australia, the US, Africa, or the Pacific, think carefully about the transfer before booking. Delays on the long domestic leg from Malé can cost valuable time and money. Many Maldives resorts are reachable from Malé by speedboat or seaplane in 30-40 minutes, which may make for a much smoother trip.

The food was consistently excellent, and so were the cocktails and soft drinks. Everything was clean, including the facilities, and our room was comfortable and spotless. The island and nearby Dhigurah are beautiful, with an incredible starry sky and house reef. We got attentive service all the time. Ishan, Isuru, and Jahed at the sunset grill and beach bar, and Hasan and Jaowad at Long Island, made us feel especially welcome. They're real assets to the residence.
