Really kind and helpful, and speaks English and Spanish. Alex is attentive to all the guests. Great people offering massages and facials on site, and the place has a cool vibe. Thanks for everything, Alex. Cheers. He was also quick to respond by email or phone. I messaged him three times with simple questions about local places and the room, and each time he replied within minutes. He was honest, too. Something I dropped was returned promptly after Alex found it. Thanks for the stay, my friend! 11/10 recommended.

The host was very nice and respectful, and the rooms were really clean. I’ll definitely stay here again next time I’m in Bacalar.

You get a small breakfast with toast, scrambled eggs, fruit, and coffee or tea. The host was great, and the rooms are both clean and spacious. I’d totally recommend this place.

A big warning if you’re planning to stay here and mostly relax in your room. Apparently, Alex expects guests to be out for most of the day. If it’s your first visit, maybe you’ll be out exploring, which is fine. We come once a year, know the area, and just wanted to sleep, but that seemed to be frowned on. Our booking was for March 29th 2024 to April 9th 2024. We left for home at 1:45 a.m. on April 9th, so we didn’t sleep there that night. Our flight was badly delayed, and we didn’t arrive until March 30th, but we were still charged for March 29th. The rate was about $700 pesos a night, while the actual hotel price was $1,300 pesos. Alex knows my parents and gets along with them, so he chose to charge us less. We never asked or hinted for a discount, but didn’t complain because a deal is a deal. We didn’t know what would come with it. Alex said we had to turn off the AC whenever we left the room to reduce his electricity bill. That wasn’t our responsibility, but we understood and started doing it after accidentally leaving it on twice. He raised this with my father, not me, and reminded him more than once that he had charged us less, so we should try to “help him out.” He also said we wouldn’t let the cleaning staff in. We were on vacation and spent a lot of the day sleeping in the room. Whenever they knocked, I opened the door and handed over our dirty towels and trash bag. The cleaning guy was very nice. Alex blamed the AC problem on us keeping it at 16 Celsius for more than 40hrs. We never stayed in the room for over 40 hours at a time. Come on, that doesn’t make sense. The remote only goes down to 17, anyway. We always set it to 22 or 23 because anything colder would freeze us, and we’re from North Carolina, so we’re used to cold. Communication was awful. We all know how to “use your words,” but he communicated through my father and repeatedly brought up the lower rate because he knew my parents. Since getting home, my husband and I tried leaving reviews on the Aljanna House facebook, but they were deleted. Hopefully this one stays. Pictures attached show the temperature, dirty towels, and my husband’s review that was removed, along with the reply.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the price is good. The location is decent, though not the best. Breakfast could be better.
