We spent four nights here, and the quiet setting, friendly staff, wildlife, and night sky made it a really enjoyable stay. I saw a cardinal and a roadrunner, there were cows and wild donkeys around, and whales surfaced in the distance. You can ask for the telescope to be brought out after dark, too. The restaurant food was very good, though after four days we were ready to try a few other places. We stayed in room 9, which I think is one of 10 rooms. Rooms 9 and 10 are the most private, set farthest from the main building, but getting there means a sandy, rocky walk and some steps back up to the hotel. Wi-Fi worked around 90% of the time across the property. The place is very peaceful, so keep in mind that some guests complained about people taking calls or working on laptops at the restaurant and pool. The beach is close enough to walk to. The hotel can also drive you there by golf cart and pack towels and other things in a bag. It’s an eco-friendly place, mostly solar powered, with water delivered by truck three times a week. Even so, our room had air conditioning that we could set as we liked, and we could flush whenever we wanted. A 4x4 rental is a good idea. Our Suzuki jimney did great. The nearest store is in La fortuna, about a 15-minute drive south, and the pavement ends near La Tortuga on the unpaved approach from the south. Hotel service runs roughly from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with self-serve coffee from 5 a.m. It has an early-to-bed, up-with-the-sun feel, so don’t expect bars or clubs.

Room 2 was spotless and well cared for, and waking up in bed to the sunrise was a lovely part of our stay. We only had two days at this beautiful boutique hotel, but it left us with a lasting memory. From the terrace, we watched humpback whales leap out of the water, which felt magical. The welcome was warm from the moment we arrived, and we felt at home. We also enjoyed the little swimming pool and would happily come back.

Watching humpback whales breach from the hotel in the mornings was one of the best parts of our stay. We also took the golf cart to the walkable beach. David brought us down with towels, chairs, and an umbrella, then came back to collect us when we were done. The yoga deck was another lovely spot, especially for sunrise. We stayed three nights in room 4, a cottage with a plunge pool, two sun terraces, and lovely decor. The hotel is beautiful throughout, with breathtaking views from every part. The pool is small, but it suited the place well, and with so few guests it never felt crowded. We ate all our meals there. The food was fabulous and the drinks selection was good. Everyone was so pleasant and helpful, from Ever greeting us to our restaurant hosts, Allura and Fabian. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. Fabian even made sure the ladies in the restaurant had blankets when the evenings got chilly. The road in has some unpaved sections, so think about transport. We took an uber from St Jose del Cabo, and I’m not sure the driver was prepared for it. Nests transport back to the airport was a much more comfortable ride. Wi-Fi was available and worked perfectly for us. I can’t recommend Nest Baja enough for the relaxing off-grid break we needed.

Nest was a great place to unwind and read, and the staff were excellent and attentive. We liked the restaurant overall, especially the killer cheeseburger and pizza. But it’s a poor fit if you plan to get around and see everything Baja California Sur has to offer. Coming from the south, you have about 20 miles of unpaved, extremely rough and somewhat treacherous road to cover. It took us almost an hour. We even returned our first rental car for something more rugged, and the drive still sucked. Beach access is very limited. The pool was so cold that nobody used it during our seven days, and the internet was spotty at best. We were glad we didn’t need to work there.

We were sad to leave. My wife and I found a literal “paradise on earth” at NEST Baja, with beautiful views and some of the best service I’ve experienced. The welcoming staff made a great first impression. We stayed in an ocean-facing villa and watched the sunrise over the ocean every day. Coffee was ready around 5:30 each morning. I HIGHLY recommend NEST Baja.
