The mattress was the one letdown, you could feel the metal inside it. I asked two other girls and they noticed the same thing. Otherwise, the place was clean and calm, in the city center, with private guest parking. The staff were lovely, and the kitchen really felt like a home kitchen with everything you need.

I’d happily stay here again, even if I wasn’t broke. The host was helpful, sweet, and understanding, and they seem to care about their reputation and the constraints backpackers face. They made us feel like valued customers. Lovely people. For 200 pesos a day, there’s a lot included. Breakfast is toast with milk, jelly, and bananas, and there’s free instant coffee during the day. Some people complain about the limited breakfast, but I thought the price and amenities were hard to beat. The dorms are spacious, with handsome wooden bunks, clean mattresses and sheets, and air conditioning, a real blessing in that heat. There’s a big TV in a cozy living room, plus a gorgeous backyard with tables, chairs, a large umbrella, room for yoga or other workouts, hammocks, and a table for big groups. The bathrooms are kept very clean. They’d just finished building a kitchen for guests to use and were working on a laundry area. The building looks fairly new. All the best!

I turned up instead of booking through Hostelworld and got a cheaper rate, 250 a night. The hostel was comfortable, clean, and nicely located, with friendly, helpful staff who speak English. Breakfast was pretty good, and there’s a kitchen for cooking.

It was a pleasant stay, with friendly staff, good air conditioning and WiFi, and a clean, well-equipped kitchen. The bathrooms smelled a bit musty, and there wasn’t much of a communal atmosphere. It’s also pricier than the average hostel in Mexico.

The location is convenient, downtown inside the surrounding walls and near the market, main plaza, and a small supermarket. Staff are friendly, the WiFi signal is good, and there’s a handy kitchen beside the hammock area. You can rent a bike for 15 pesos an hour and ride along the malecon. There are dorms with fans or air conditioning, plus individual lights and plugs at each bed. You have to ask reception to switch on the AC. The bathrooms are clean, but there are only five for 20 guests. Breakfast is included, though you have to prepare it yourself. I’d get up early since the kitchen is small and there isn’t enough food. I’m not sure what the cost of living is in Campeche, but the hostel felt overpriced to me. After two nights in a dorm, we were asked to move because a large group was arriving. With the limited toilets and kitchen space, I can see how a full house would be difficult.
