The hotel is small and pleasant, set a little away from the noisy main street. Staff were very helpful and nice, though they knew only a little English, and the rooms were clean. The double bed was a bit small, but we were there for just two nights. Breakfast was very good and cheap, only $60 for a plate of fruit, unlimited coffee, and quesadillas. You can have it at the hotel, though we had to walk to the pool area in the neighboring building, which was still under construction. That felt odd, but also like an adventure, as so many things in Mexico do :-)

It was a comfortable base while we went to Calakmul. The room was sizeable, the bed comfortable, and the shower decent. The place is quiet, though it's a bit of a walk to the center and there don't seem to be restaurants or cafes nearby for a quick breakfast. Both taps seemed to give hot water, so it was hard to tell which was meant to be hot or cold. Still, hot water is nice, right!

Jose and Jacqueline made check-in easy, and gave us a corner unit with a window and a sliding door as well as the main entrance. We were comfortable at Terracota in Campeche. The room was spacious, with a desk, bedside tables, and shelves, and the bedding was comfortable. There's Wi-Fi, a hot and cold shower, and an antojitos right across from the hotel.

The kitchen setup was a letdown, especially since having one mattered a lot when we booked. The apartment had a gas stove, microwave, and fridge, but hardly any utensils. We left a list at reception and got the requested pot and cutlery a few hours later, taken from the hotel's own kitchen. Other reviewers seemed to have had the same issue four months earlier. Ask for dish soap, matches for the stove, a kitchen towel, and check whether there's a bin. Ours was missing one at first. Two kitchen drawers couldn't open because the wood had warped, and neither the kitchen nor laptop table looked clean when we arrived. We also had to ask for bathroom towels, which weren't in the apartment. The apartment is inside Terracota hotel, and you need to leave your keys at reception when heading into town. Parking is available in a tiny spot for three cars, but the cars would block one another, so it is at least somewhat private. The staff were very kind and ready to help, and cleaned the place once for free during our four-night stay. Our super king bed fit our family of three, including our five-year-old, and the shower water was very warm. There was no warm water at the kitchen or bathroom sink, though. Internet speed was very good, 23 Mbps down and about 3 Mbps up, but it dropped for 30-60 seconds now and then, around 5-10 times a day, which got annoying. The room faced a small street with constant traffic, and we heard passing cars and loud motorcycles throughout the day, somewhat less at night. On the map the hotel looks ideally placed, but the streets toward the market and historic center weren't pleasant or comfortable to walk, especially at night. There were no proper sidewalks, so we had to watch our footing and the cars on the narrow street. The huge MEGA supermarket was just a few minutes away on foot, which was handy. Overall, it came in below our expectations, though there were things we liked.

The rooms were clean and the hotel was quiet, with a very nice, cold swimming pool. It's a bit far from the historical area, but that didn't bother us.
