Hotel Colonial Cancun

Just one night for us, but the beds were comfortable and the location was good. The people were very nice, everything was clean and worked, check-in and check-out were easy, and the price was great.

Bedbugs! The room was in rough shape. The TV didn't work, WiFi was poor, the bathroom was not in good condition, the shower had no hot water, and outside noise was loud. I expected basic but reasonable amenities for the price. The beds were old, though I was too tired to think much about that at first. Within 20 minutes of lying down, I could feel bedbugs biting me. I changed hotels the next day. Please don't stay here.

A good value if you're looking to stay in downtown Cancun and explore. You're near the ADO bus station, city center, airport and hotel zone, and it's easy to take the R1 bus to the main beach. The location is central to everything downtown, though the nearby bar means loud music. The TV didn't work and the WiFi was weak in my room. It was okay overall.

The hotel is small, rooms are spotless and air conditioned, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It's in a tourist-friendly area, with a busy market about 100 metres down the street that comes alive at night with bars, restaurants and street food. The Red Bus (R1) stops right outside and runs every couple of minutes. It's $1 each way and takes 20 min to the beach. Tours also leave from outside the door. Some nights are noisy when local bars have bands. There's no tea or coffee in the rooms, just a few soft drinks and potato chips in the lobby. Most bedrooms have no natural light or view, so ask ahead if that matters to you. Internet is patchy and almost unusable in some rooms. A nice extra is the excellent masseur, who visits rooms or gives chair massages in the lobby. There's also a roof garden where you can wash clothes and air dry them if you've been travelling awhile. A good budget spot to feel secure and avoid the expensive beach strip, especially for a short stay. Don't let the low prices put you off.
