The staff were warm, welcoming, and fluent in English, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The location in Polanco is a big draw, with the National Museum of Anthropology, Chapultepec Park and Castle, and Masaryk Avenue’s shops and cafés nearby. The Living Room lobby bar had well-made cocktails and one of the best short rib tacos I had in the city. The gym was impressive, with a hot tub and full amenities, though the altitude definitely makes itself known when you work out. The shared areas feel polished, but the rooms are tired and need a refresh. The water closet had uneven paint, the shower handle was loose, and the trim could use fresh paint. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows fell short. The rooms don’t quite meet a true five-star standard. We had a great view and the staff were very friendly. The location is handy for exploring Polanco. If you’re vegan, I wouldn’t recommend eating here. It took three tries to get the right food from the vegan room service menu. The staff apologized and tried hard to fix it, but the mix-up was frustrating and made for a later night than necessary. Still, it was a small hiccup in an otherwise very pleasant stay.

The plumbing needs work. It shakes loudly whenever someone on another floor showers, and the doors aren’t soundproof, so you hear neighbors coming and going. The interior design could also be better. That said, the staff were warm from the moment I arrived, and everyone made me feel at home. Breakfast was exquisite, with a generous, beautifully presented selection each morning. The spa was divine, and I had the best massage of my life. The location is walkable and felt very safe.

The room’s condition and noise seriously affected my stay, and after four nights I don’t plan to return to the W Hotel. The room showed wear and wasn’t clean enough. The bathroom seemed inadequately cleaned, there was visible buildup on the walls and dust and dirt on the baseboards. The shower had a little mold in the corners, cracked grout, very weak water pressure, and hot water that lasted no more than five minutes at a time. The mattress felt cheap and overly firm, making for restless nights. Music played through the hotel late at night and again early in the morning, so I didn’t have a single quiet night. The staff were exceptional from check-in through checkout, attentive and courteous, and the restaurant wait staff were excellent too.
