The apartment was basic, but it met all our needs for the month we spent there in November. Hector and Shannon were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to make our stay great. Mirabel, the manager, was always available and even took us to get fresh fruit and vegetables in La Crucecita. We liked being close to Santa Cruz Beach and walked there every day. The pool was refreshing, and we spent plenty of time reading there and watching the local iguanas and birds. It was relaxing and fun. We arrived as guests and left feeling spoiled, like family. We enjoyed Huatulco and expect to return.

The stairs are plentiful, so this may not suit someone who can't or doesn't want to climb them. We were fine with the workout, and from the top terrace the view was wonderful. There's a hammock, a lounge, and a line for drying clothes. The pool was clean and just right, refreshing without being cold. Our room's air conditioner and fan worked well, as did the small fridge, whose freezer even froze water bottles. The firm mattress and new linens were good. The shared kitchen had a good fridge and enough room to prepare meals. There's a TV in the living room, though we didn't use it. We stayed at the Guesthouse for 38 days, which gave us a good chance to get to know the place. The owners communicated well during booking and throughout our stay, and the price was great. It's a super location, about a six-minute walk to Santa Cruz and perhaps ten minutes to the beach. Parking was secure for our three motorcycles, and the home has locked gates. Mirabel, the manager, kept things running smoothly and was helpful and responsive. We enjoyed speaking Spanish with her, and she put up with our Spanglish. Hector, one of the owners, was accommodating, helpful, and funny, and his presence made the stay better. He even took my husband fishing. The neighboring dogs bark, mostly in the morning when other dogs pass by, but not all day. If you're a light sleeper, bring good earplugs. The kitchen could be better organized, perhaps with an information sheet in English or Spanish about where to put food and supplies. Guests should also clear out their things when leaving, since the kitchen felt congested with items people had left behind. To me, respect is what makes a guesthouse work: wash your dishes, hang laundry on the line instead of the railings, and lock the gates properly. We'd definitely return. It's not the Hilton, but it's a beautiful home and a great place to stay.

The lower-level apartment was just the right size, and we loved sitting on the patio in the morning with all the birds active. We enjoyed the pool and rooftop too. The walk to Santa Cruz beach was always pleasant, with lots of restaurants nearby. The rate is very reasonable, and we'd love to stay again.

I spent four amazing months at La Vivienda Villa in Huatulco as a solo traveler, and made many friends there. It has a warm, cultural feel and plenty of laughter, but it's not a typical stay. The large rooms are clean and comfortable, there's a great pool to jump into after a hot day, and the stairs are part of the experience. Maribel, the manager, helps make your stay memorable. If you want a modern condo-style place or perfection, this probably isn't for you. It's a Mexican-style villa, and a lovely place to visit Mexico. I'd go back.

For a modest price, this is a terrific little place: clean, comfortable, and well located. We liked the shared balcony, with its barstool perches, and the windows in the shower. The nearby property has about half a dozen dogs that bark pretty regularly during the day. Luckily, they settled down at night.
