Alberto’s homemade pasta is an absolute treat, just the kind of comfort food you want after a day exploring the island. The breakfast is lighter, with yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, juice, pastry, and excellent coffee; you can pay a reasonable extra amount for something more substantial. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage. There’s no in-room fridge, but the hosts will keep small items in the kitchen fridge. The hotel is about a five-minute walk from beautiful public beaches, with beach clubs at a range of prices nearby. You can use the beaches for free, though there are no chairs and similar facilities. El Nido lends parasols for shade. A taxi to town takes about ten minutes and costs around 200 pesos each way. Walking is scenic and enjoyable, mostly along the beach, and takes about 30 minutes. Bring a flashlight after dark because the roads can be uneven or muddy. The island feels extremely safe at any hour, and you might see raccoons along the way. Bug spray is essential. The property is beautifully landscaped and well maintained, with a peaceful pool and comfy sun beds for a morning rest. El Nido has the cozy feel and hospitality of a classic bed-and-breakfast, with thoughtful, chic hotel design. Alberto and Franco are warm, attentive hosts who make you feel welcome. The place is a bit removed from the center, and a taxi cost us about $200 per ride. That also meant it was noticeably quieter, which was just right for us, and we’d happily come back. Alberto was a genuinely lovely host, warm, helpful, and attentive in a low-key way. Our room was calm, spacious, and minimal, and the shower was excellent after a long day. Breakfast was on the small side, so we needed an extra to make it filling. Alberto makes his own pasta, which I’m sure is great, though we didn’t try it.

If you’re after a quiet stay rather than a party scene, this hotel is very recommendable. It’s close to Punta Coco, about a three-minute walk, where you can watch the sunset, see bioluminescence, and enjoy a less crowded beach. The center is farther off, roughly a 30-minute walk one way, though there are restaurants around 15 minutes away between the hotel and town, including pizza, Mexican food, and burgers. There’s also a small store around the corner for drinks and other things. The modern, clean, comfortable style really appealed to me. The owner and staff are lovely, and the pool and whole common area are nice. Breakfast is included, with coffee or tea, yogurt and granola, fruit, and cookies. Eggs and a bit more food are available for a small extra charge. Muchas gracias!
