Villa los Mangles Boutique Hotel

Cristina lives at the property and was quick to help throughout our stay, especially after our arrival in Holbox turned into a bit of a nightmare. We spent four nights in the top room with its huge private terrace, and I’d recommend booking it. There’s plenty of room to stretch out in the sun, when the weather allows; we had a few rainy days. The view across the island is incredible, and you can watch the sunrise from there. The beach is only a few blocks away, and walking or cycling into the middle of town was easy. It took us about 10-15 minutes on foot, less by bike. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure, and we even had a blender for making frozen margaritas. I can’t say what the other rooms are like.

Cristina made this place for us. We had some pretty odd requests, and she helped every time without making us feel like a bother. She even lent us rain boots for the flooded roads and her own Tupperware so we could take fruit to the beach. So kind. We stayed in the Amistad room, the cheapest one available. It was spacious and lovely, with a hammock and an outdoor deck. The room was packed with useful things: a fridge, toaster, dishes and utensils, a blender, beach towels, drinking water, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. It’s tucked away from downtown’s bustle, but the beach is a short walk and town is about ten minutes away. We feel lucky we found it.

There’s little water pressure, though water is a challenge on this sandy island. The hotel itself is quiet and clean, in a lovely shady, cool forest setting. No views, but the beach and shops are both very close.

The service was great, and we’d absolutely stay here again. It was convenient, affordable, and sweet. This is a small boutique complex, I think four units with another being built, and it had what we needed for a comfortable island stay. The rooms were very clean, with nice little touches, basic hotel toiletries and towels, plus a kitchen where we could sort out leftovers. We especially appreciated the five-gallon bottle of distilled water with an automatic pump. Hot water was welcome too. The pressure was a bit low, which we figured might fit the island’s focus on sustainability and being eco-conscious. You’re about a minute’s walk from Holbox’s beautiful beach. The island is small, so we walked everywhere; taxis are around if mobility is an issue. We also hung the little do-not-disturb heart on our door so housekeeping could have some time off and we could reuse our towels.
