Villas Palmar Holbox

The pool area is lovely, with loungers and a spot with hammocks, and they provide pool towels. The beach is a six-minute walk away. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a fridge and coffee machine in the family room, and the beds were comfortable too. The hotel was kept really clean, and our room was cleaned daily. Staff were pleasant, helpful, and very obliging. Our room was ready even though we arrived a bit early, and we could keep it nearly an extra hour until it was time for our ferry. Everything was perfect for my friend's and my stay at Villas Palmars.

The rooms were clean and serviced daily, with made beds and fresh towels. Housekeeping did a great job, and the air conditioning, TV, and small kitchen were good. The location also made it easy to get to the beach or town centre. Our first impression was positive, but the five-night stay had several problems. The pool area has sun loungers, but eating and drinking are completely prohibited there, which made it less relaxing. The outdoor grounds didn't look like the online pictures, and some parts seemed unfinished, almost like a construction site. Balcony railings were being replaced, and the work was noisy. More concerning, workers tossed pieces of the old railings down without checking whether anyone was below. A piece of wood nearly hit my brother, and there were no warning signs or barriers. Raccoons wandered around the pool and stairwells every night, leaving droppings that were cleaned in the morning. Dogs barked almost constantly at night, and children screamed during the day, either at the pool or elsewhere on the grounds. The two worst nights of our 16 days in Mexico were here. It was Carnival season in Holbox, so some street noise was expected, but this was by far the loudest hotel we've stayed in. Around 2:00 AM, a group of drunk guests came back shouting inside and outside, running up and down the stairs and banging on room doors. They did this several times, left the grounds, then returned an hour later, slamming doors and shaking the whole hotel. There were around 5-10 of them, and since we don't speak Spanish, we didn't feel comfortable confronting them. Reception isn't staffed at night and there's no security guard, so guests are left to handle these disturbances themselves. We and other guests complained at reception the next morning, but the same group was partying and being loud on the grounds again the next night. I have no complaint about the staff, who did their jobs well, but leaving guests alone with this kind of nighttime disturbance is unacceptable and something management needs to address urgently. I can't recommend this hotel.

At least the beds were comfortable and made up with fresh linen daily. The place felt more like a party hostel than a hotel, with guests shouting and partying until 5 a.m. They ran through the staircases and corridors and randomly banged on other guests' doors. There was no night watch, or maybe they were just hiding.

A family friendly place, with hammocks, a pool, and a small play area. We asked for a baby pen for our five-month-old and they were able to provide one, which was amazing. The staff were great, and the location is just outside the noisy centre.
