Perla La Paz, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

I like the Hotel Perla. It’s a good fit if you want a nice room, parking, a very nice restaurant, and a perfect location, rather than being waited on hand and foot. I stayed three nights, and the staff were all welcoming. The rooms are basic but clean, with AC that works really well. It’s easy to walk everywhere from here. Secure parking is available most days, though it isn’t guaranteed during carnaval.

If you’re willing to walk a few streets away from the waterfront, you can find street food that’s more flavorful and cheaper, with much friendlier service. It’s also a chance to experience the culture. The food here isn’t anything special and feels geared to tourists, which makes sense given the location. Service was attentive, if a little gruff. I never had to ask twice, but the staff seemed a bit put off about being there. That was unlike the other places I visited in Baja, though I had been to some very remote spots well off MEX1. This is a better choice if you’re short on time.

It’s an older place, with the look of an old-fashioned five-star hotel, and it’s clean and right by the sea. It’s not expensive, either. They have a pool and tubs with hot water. Even now, I’d call it a good hotel.

We spent a whole month at La Perla, and it suited us perfectly. The location couldn’t be better, and the hotel is clean, with friendly, helpful staff. The rooms aren’t fancy, but the beds were comfortable and everything was cleaned daily. There’s a pool and a couple of nice spots to sit and watch people stroll along the Malecón. Breakfast is included at La Terraza next door: coffee, juice, and bread. You also get 10% off the menu there for breakfast orders.
