Kapsul Express Ma Rida

The capsule itself was okay and a bit of a novelty, and it’s one of the cheaper places to stay in Merida. They also provide towels. But the shared bathrooms smelled disgusting, the showers and toilets were dirty, and there was black mold on the ceiling. We didn’t see any cleaners during our two nights, and the place needs more attention to cleanliness. Other than the price and towels, it was pretty shit. The capsules are meant for two, but the locker only fits one bag, so our other bag had to sit in the already cramped hallway. There’s only one USB port inside and no way to charge a laptop. The AC in ours didn’t work, so it got hot overnight and felt a little claustrophobic. They couldn’t take card because their machine wasn’t working, which was really inconvenient. When we arrived after heavy rain, there was a bucket in reception collecting water, not a great first impression. It’s at least a 20-minute walk from the town center.

It’s a neat little capsule hostel near the centre, and for the price I’d still recommend it. The beds were very clean, towels were provided, and breakfast is included. The waffle machine lets you make your own, which is a fun perk. A few things to keep in mind: you can only pay cash, and there’s no plug inside the capsule. The wall has one USB C and one USB port, so charging a laptop or anything else means leaving it in the hallway or outside. The key card opens all the lockers, not just yours. Also, the hooks fell off the wall, leaving nowhere to hang towels. The capsule exit button only works if the keycard is slotted in and the capsule has power. If you lock yourself in without the card, there’s no way out, and the emergency unlock button doesn’t work. That’s not fire safe at all, so be aware and prepare accordingly.

The place is okay for one night, but it’s dirty and the bathroom is bad. There’s no maintenance at all.
