I had a very bad experience and won’t stay at Hotel Plaza Riviera again. I was only there because Best Western lost power. There are much better choices elsewhere. The hotel is a little old, and it shares its parking with a paid vendor. They wanted me to pay, so I had to sort that out before I could even check in. The room was okay and clean enough, but there was very little hot water. I almost had to run around in the shower to get wet. They required a 200 peso deposit for the key and remote control. At checkout, I waited over 15 minutes for a maid to check the room and make sure I hadn’t taken towels or the remote. When I returned the items, they made me wait almost 20 minutes for a housekeeper to inspect the room. In my 45-plus years of traveling, I’ve never had that happen, and it made me feel like a thief. It was also extremely noisy. Someone at the plaza next door played music at 11 and several times during the night, and it was loud, loud, loud.

The reception building seemed okay, but don’t go to the Second Building. I was there for 2 days, and one morning there was no hot water. Wi fi barely worked, and mobile data didn’t work in my room. The area around it was dirty, with a dirt Market and many homeless and crazies people. My room itself was okay, and yes, it’s cheap, so it’s your choice. Don’t believe the photos.

I stay here most times I visit my father in Matamoros, and I’d come back 100x over. They keep watch over your vehicle at night, are super accommodating, and there are plenty of food options nearby, with the markets only a short walk away. My Spanish isn’t the best, so sometimes I use Google translate with them. The wifi can be weak in certain rooms, and since I love my Netflix, I’ve asked to move to a room with a stronger signal. They’ve happily done it without complaining and checked before leaving the new room to make sure I was satisfied with the wifi.

Mal customer service, and this time I didn’t like it at all. My family and I have stayed there for many years, but last weekend was bad. We arrived on Thursday, July 15 21. The receptionist was a woman with glasses who was overweight and rude, with a poor customer service attitude. My mother, my two kids, and I were staying there. My mother got the room, and the receptionist said it was for 3 adults and 1 child. We booked it for 3 days. The next day, my mother asked whether they were going to clean the room, and the receptionist asked if we wanted it cleaned. Of course we did, we needed fresh towels and toilet paper. She also wanted to charge us more, saying she hadn’t charged for my mom. Really, I was there when she charged for 3 adults and 1 child. I also saw a roach. Unfortunately, I’ll look for another hotel when I go to Matamoros MX.

Very clean, with great service at the front desk. We could add breakfast, and it wasn’t hotel cereal and muffins. We went to an actual restaurant for real homemade breakfast and handmade tortillas. 😁
