City Express Plus by Marriott Mérida

The courtyard just outside has some really nice places to eat, which is a real bonus and would bring me back. The hotel is good value for money, with fine rooms, nice bathrooms, and modern, newly decorated spaces. Breakfast was adequate, but nothing more.

There’s one ice machine for the whole hotel, and it was out of order during my stay. There’s no mini fridge, and the breakfast is basic. The upgrade doesn’t give you much more, so eating out is probably best. For a few dollars more, the downtown Marriott is nearby and a better choice.

We could relax and get ready for sightseeing without heading out for breakfast, since it was included. Parking was free and easy, too. The hotel is downtown, with places like Walmart and Oxxo nearby for a little shopping. We stayed two nights, and watching the sunset from the rooftop pool after arriving was amazing.

The staff refused to refund us at checkout, even though the morning team had been suggested as the people who could help. The night before, we ordered room service for dinner and got two completely cold, overcooked dishes with stale nachos. The steak was cold and fully cooked, despite our order for medium rare, and the food tasted three days old. We didn't eat any of it. We called room service three times, but no one answered, so we ordered Uber Eats and told reception what had happened. This was absolutely unprofessional, and the service and food were terrible.
