Hotel Del Gobernador

If you want sleep, fresh air, or daylight, Hotel Del Gobernador may not be for you. Loud guests made it almost impossible to rest: doors slammed, suitcases rolled by at all hours, and people shouted in the corridors. Even earplugs didn’t block it. Our room had just one window facing the inner courtyard, so there was no ventilation. After a shower, the damp air lingered and the room felt musty and mouldy. Many rooms get almost no daylight because of the building layout, and ours was dark and gloomy. The tiny bathroom came with one roll of toilet paper. We asked for an extra small towel, but housekeeping had taken it away by the next day. The men at reception were friendly and helpful, which was the one bright spot. I found the hotel overrated. Unless you’re after sleepless nights and stale air, I’d avoid it.

A very nice little hotel with a pool, in a good spot for shops and restaurants, with parks within walking distance. We tried the nachos and drinks, and both were lovely. I wasn’t comfortable leaving my passport at the front desk to borrow two towels, even though I got it back when I returned them. I wondered what would happen if I lost a towel. I’d be happy to leave a deposit, but not my passport.

It’s not a four-star hotel, but I still think it deserves five stars. My sister and I loved our stay. The place is charming and lovely, quiet, and a great value. The staff were outstanding, friendly, and helpful with all my questions. Its location worked really well for downtown shops and amenities. We wanted a comfortable base with helpful people while we explored Merida and the surrounding area, and Hotel Gobernador fit that perfectly.

We had a room and a breakfast voucher, but in the morning Delma wouldn’t let us sit inside with our little kid. We were told everything was reserved and were directed outside into the heat. I made a video showing 40 free seats. We refused to sit outside in the heat with our child. When we eventually left after breakfast, there were still 20 seats free. We felt discriminated against. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to families, and we’ll never stay again. There are plenty of good hotels around. The response here only reinforces my disappointment. This shouldn’t happen at a true four-star hotel. It’s about basic planning and guest experience, especially for families with small children. Sending us into the blazing heat while dozens of tables were visibly empty wasn’t hospitality, it was poor judgment. Offering a different breakfast as consolation just showed a lack of understanding of basic comfort. And if you describe yourself as “one of the best 4-star hotels,” check your standing: 59 out of 160 hotels in Mérida on TripAdvisor puts you in the lower half. Real hospitality takes flexibility, empathy, and foresight. Your reply sounded like a copy-paste template. Truly disappointing.
