Hacienda Viva Sotuta de Peón

The cenote was incredible, and the guided tour was excellent. Staff were great too. The ride there is in mule-drawn carts. A really good attraction.

Seeing the cenote on the property makes this lovely hacienda even more beautiful. It also gives a good sense of henequen’s history and how important it used to be to the local economy.

A great excursion from our cruise ships. They only had 10 horses, though, so they had to split up the ride.

The food was incredible at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and their margarita was the best I’ve ever had. My room was also great, with a stunning little private pool. I spent one night at the Hacienda on my own, and the guide on the tour was hilarious, enthusiastic, and taught me a lot about its history. The cenote could have been fun, but it was nearly pitch black with no lighting. There was a power outage when I checked in, which the owner kindly explained can happen because the Hacienda is so remote. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but no electricity meant no air conditioning and a rough night’s sleep. I’m not sure I’d return, since being without power made the stay so uncomfortable.
